The Window Before the Rush

The Window Before the Rush

School is back in session. Sports are already in full swing, practices, games, carpools, all of it back at full speed like summer never happened.

Here's what I've noticed, both as a mom and as someone who watches this shift happen in the store every single year: right now, in these first few weeks, there's a small window. A stretch of time before the holiday rush takes over, before our to-do lists fill up with everyone else's names instead of our own.

If you've been in the store lately, you've probably noticed it too. The shelves are already shifting, Halloween is crowding in, and Thanksgiving and Christmas are right behind it. It happens every year, and every year it still catches me off guard!

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the holidays. The music, the festivities, the celebrations, the joy it brings. I see extra smiles, extra kindness, extra generosity, that's the part I love. And then I'm in it, stressed out just like everyone else, because I bought 4 gifts for one twin and only 3 for the other!

I feel like once that rush hits, time just seems to vanish. Suddenly it's January and I'm sitting there thinking I hope I really enjoyed that. I hope I soaked it all in. Somehow that time is now filled with other things, and I'm left wondering how I ever had room for it all, but somehow I did.

This is your reminder, and mine, to take those moments for ourselves now. Maybe it's an extra minute or two with the warm water running down your back, or working out again, or drinking your coffee quietly before someone needs something.

So however that looks for you take this time to recharge. This season is about to speed up!
